Hello again, and happy Sunday, Scribblers!
Well, we’re in October now (wot!?!) which feels like full permission to embrace all things autumnal (in the northern hemisphere, anyway!). I’ve seen Halloween decorations up in my neighbourhood since early September but I just can’t get on board until at least October. How about you? Are you an early decorator? Are you one of those people who loves Halloween best of all?
Anyway.
Onwards with our prompt for today…
But first, our invitation:
Even if you don’t normally identify as a writer, I invite you to have a noodle in a notebook or on a scrap of paper…just to see what might happen.
Write by hand, if you’re able.
Give yourself a time limit.
No edits.
No second thoughts.
Let your pen take a walk across the page.
Ready?
Let’s begin.
I have a first line of a poem for you today. Something so simple, and yet so full of potential. You really could go anywhere with this….
“Autumn night - unable to sleep, I leave my tiny cottage”
~ Ryōkan
A world of possibility lives in that one line, don’t you think? Why can’t the person sleep? Where are they going?
Start there and keep writing.
And don’t forget to share your work! Or don’t. Either is an excellent choice.
Happy scribbling!
~m. xo
If writing prompts aren’t your thing (wot?!), that’s absolutely fine. We can still be friends. You can toggle your preference in the manage subscriptions portion of your settings so you won’t receive these particular emails.
Ooh that might be the first line for episode 3 of “Hiraeth”….
