Hello and happy Sunday, scribblers!
I hope you’ve had a lovely week….mine has been mostly absorbed by time in the garden for which I shall not apologize. The weather has been glorious and it won’t always be quite so hospitable so I’m making the most of it. Plus, spring is a labour-intensive time what with planting seeds and getting the veg plots ready to receive the newly-sprouted seedlings; the work I do now will allow me to reap the rewards (and hide from the stultifying humidity) later.
Speaking of which…the scribbles you put down now might some day grow into a robust and abundant story later. (feeble plant metaphor but I couldn’t resist)…so let’s get scribbling.
First, the instructions….
Even if you don’t identify as a writer, I invite you to have a noodle in a notebook or on a scrap of paper…just to see what might happen.
If you absolutely have no interest - fair enough - you can toggle your preference in the manage subscriptions portion of your settings.
Write by hand, if you’re able.
Give yourself a time limit.
No edits.
No second thoughts.
Let your pen take a walk across the page.
Ready?
Let’s begin.
Today’s prompt comes from a) the fact I’ve spent all week in the garden and b) a fascination of mine and c) the appearance of such things in other novels (that I can’t think of off the top of my head but I know I’ve read a few).
Poison gardens.
I know, right?
Ominous, fascinating, forbidden..foxglove, datura, henbane….the poison garden is the realm of herbalists, cunning-women, witches and court assassins. You can also often find them as educational displays in botanical gardens. 😜
So the invitation for today, should you choose to accept it, is this:
Write about a poison garden.
Hints: write about the garden itself, or maybe who tends it and why. What’s in it? Who’s using the plants that grow there, for what purpose - remembering that many plants that are poisonous are also beneficial in the appropriate doses. Ooooh, there’s a concept! Run with it!
Remember — don’t overthink it, just let your pen walk across the page.
Happy scribbling!!

Such an interesting prompt. Thankyou for your encouragement to write 👍.
I love this! What a great idea. And the prompt is fantastic. I'm a bit late, but going to give it a go!
