I love Tom Cox's cat books, if you haven't read those already - they are laugh out loud funny and even better, there are 3 or 4 of them! Love the sound of The Fortnight In September, I'm going to check it out now.

Oh, I've loved all of his Substack essays about cats...I'll definitely have to read the cat book! And the Fortnight is a truly fantastic book....all the good feels. xo

Absolutely please keep writing these monthly book reviews. I love them! Both VILLAGER and THE FORTNIGHT IN SEPTEMBER are now on my list. If you're going goth but you're a lightweight (like me!), I cannot possibly recommend highly enough the work of Leanna Renee Hieber. I'm so sure you'll enjoy her work that I am including a link. https://www.leannareneehieber.com/ Her first non-fiction work is A HAUNTED HISTORY OF INVISIBLE WOMEN: True Stories of America's Ghosts. The stories themselves are fascinating but the way Hieber weaves in feminism and the voice that women found, through ghost storeis, in times when women's voices were gagged and shamed, is downright brilliant. Ghosts, afterall, can do all sorts of shocking, unacceptable things and inspire fear in a way that living women could not. Her other fiction series are an absolute escapist joy to read. In fact, it might be time for me to read another! They're a bit spooky but not what I would truly classify as horror. Very goth though. Must. Go. Do. Formatting. Work...Must. Not. Start. Reading. 😂

oooooh!! Thanks for that link...will absolutely be checking that out. Fascinating, isn't it, that especially in the Victorian era how many of the authors of gothic literature were women - and definitely the readers were (though both were alternately ignored or reviled for doing so...a rant for another day!) And yes, I am also a lightweight lol. Escapist joy is definitely one of my preferred genres. Enjoy your formatting!! (maybe a short reading break?) :) xo

I am almost entirely a non-fiction reader these days I have read one fiction book this year by Tove Alsterdal. I read about a book a month because, as you say, non-fiction is a slow read. I am currently reading Underland by Robert Macfarlane, he of Lost Words fame, I love his writing and have read several books by him. Waiting in the wings on my to be read pile are Doughnut economics by Kate Rawsworth, Lunar Living by Kirsty Gallagher, Hagitude by Sharon Blackie (love, love, love her writing) and Glucose Revolution by Jessie Inchauspe.

I really enjoy Robert Macfarlane as well. I have quite a few non-fiction books on my TBR right now...though mostly are writing/creativity related. Love Sharon Blackie’s work as well xo

A Fortnight in September is one of my favourites. I love 'quiet' books with no big drama but which trip along happily exploring the internal as much as the external.

I love connecting with your words, even in reviews, responses and recommendations. I'm challenged to become a voracious reader again after a desolate comprehension dry spell! It's all "keeper" to me!

I'm always going to be the first person to encourage and enable a voracious reading habit. :) So glad to be helping to (re)kindle that in you, dearest Annie xo
