Halloooooo!! And welcome back, Scribblers!
Thank you for your patience while I reassembled my scattered brain once again. I’m still in the thick of All of the Things, but have acclimated somewhat to the workload. Because of my little wobble of last week, we’ve only got five Sundays before I sign off on my Christmas/New Year Pause…but five is better than none, so let’s crack on, wot?
This is kind of an odd season, I find, though it’s one of my favourites…summer is definitely over, here in my corner of the northern hemisphere, but winter isn’t quite ready to show her face. It’s the perfect mix of sun and gloom, rain and frost where we still get the odd warm day, intermingled with the chilly ones. So, reflecting that, the prompts for this season will be a bit of a mixed bag.
But first, for the new people (*waves*) and as a refresher, here’s the invitation:
Even if you don’t normally identify as a writer, I invite you to have a noodle in a notebook or on a scrap of paper…just to see what might happen.
Write by hand, if you’re able.
Give yourself a time limit.
No edits.
No second thoughts.
Let your pen take a walk across the page.
Ready?
Let’s begin.
I’ve been reading a fair amount of Gothic fiction this past month or so…my Gothtober leaking into November (Gothvember ?) and so I thought we’d start of with a Gothic-inspired trio.
a locked tower
a river rising
a bag of silver coins
I challenge you to use all of them together…
…or you can pick one or two…
… or none at all.
Hint: Try to sit with the mental images that arise (if that’s accessible to you) and let something bubble up, rather than trying to reach for it….see if that makes a difference. Be patient. Trust that something will come.
As always, feel free to share your work…in a comment or via message. I don’t bite and I love to see the different interpretations. Or you can stockpile these into a dog-eared, coffee-stained notebook that you carry around with you wherever you go. It’s all good.
until next time, happy scribbling!

ps. Don’t forget, the Silent Scribbles are ongoing and scheduled up until December18th. We have a fairly steady group of regulars and we’d love if you would join in!
Ooh, these are good prompts, ones I can definitely attempt later when my brain is fully recovered from the most recent cold. I am feeling more with it today but now my spouse has it!
